GENERAL INFORMATION

A science and engineering fair is a competition in which students can exhibit and demonstrate their projects to the judges and the public. The fair serves three major purposes:

  • it stimulates in young people an active interest in science and engineering;

  • it provides an educational experience to students through exposure to judges and to the public;

  • and it provides a forum for talented students to receive public recognition for their work.

Fairs range in scope from local level, which may involve one grade, school, or district, to the regional, state, and international levels, which may involve large cities, counties, states, or even nations. An estimated 1.5 million students participate each year throughout the United States and more than twenty countries worldwide.

The success or failure of any science and engineering fair to a large degree depends upon the quality of the judging. It is vital that judges thoroughly understand their duties and obligations.

We look forward to working with you in the interest of encouraging young people and promoting the study of science and engineering in New Mexico's schools.  Thank you for your support and enthusiasm!
